Beware of Phone Solicitations! -- Posted by admin on Friday, November 3 2006
New Hackensack Fire Company would like to advise our fire district residents to beware of phone solicitations that may be received looking for donations. One thing New Hackensack can promise all its district residents is that you will never receive a phone call soliciting donations. New Hackensack Fire Company understands that your support should be earned, and not from a 30-second phone call. In addition to serving the needs of the district residents on a daily basis by responding to emergency and public assistance calls, we feel that our annual newspaper is filled with important information and advice that help us to earn that support.
Recently, our district residents have been annoyed at home by phone solicitors seeking donations for a neighboring fire department. A vast number of these phone solicitations have been made right around the dinner hour or in the evening when our district residents are relaxing at home. The New Hackensack Fire Company wants to be very clear that we do not and will not solicit donations via a phone call. More importantly, the majority of the funds collected from these solicitors won’t benefit the organization you expected they would. The New Hackensack Fire Company prides itself on the service it offers to our residents. That is why our request for donations has always come in the form of our annual newspaper. Our volunteer firefighters take time to write every article that you will read. This newspaper is filled with important information about the fire company and also provides articles on prevention and safety tips. It also includes great games and drills for residents to work on with their children. All this in an effort to protect our neighbors and keep them informed of the latest news and issues. It is our hope that after reading this great paper, that you answer our appeal for support. Once the paper is finalized, the members then physically deliver the newspaper to every resident in our 20 square mile fire district. You’ll find that our members have gone through great lengths to provide you with some wonderful reading material. Not only that, but you can read it at your leisure and really get to know the company that is serving you and looking for your support. More importantly, your entire donation goes directly to the volunteers that serve your emergency and fire prevention needs.
So, the next time that you receive a call from a solicitor requesting donations that are to support your local fire department just remember this, if your local fire department is New Hackensack Fire Company, we will never ask for donations over the phone.
New Hackensack Fire Company would like to thank its residents in advance for their continued support and we hope you enjoy your annual newspaper.
CHILD SAFETY SEAT INSPECTION STATION -- Posted by admin on Tuesday, November 16 2004
A recent survey completed by the U.S. Department of Transportation's NHTSA has found that although child safety seat restraint use has increased from 50.6 percent to 71.5 percent, nearly 80 percent of all child restraints are improperly used, needlessly exposing children to an increased risk of death or injury. The fact is that motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths among children ages 14 and under. The good news is that child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used correctly, prevent injuries and save lives.
Knowing these important statistics, New Hackensack Fire Department wants to ensure that your children don’t become a statistic. Members of the department have attended the National Safe Kids Child Passenger Safety Program (www.safekids.org). The National Safe Kids Campaign is the certifying body for the National Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training Program.
Joining some of Dutchess County's local emergency service departments, New Hackensack is a local Child Safety Seat Inspection Station. Let us make sure that your child is safe from unintentional injuries caused by the misuse of your child seat restraint. Inspections will be done by appointment only due to the availabililty of our volunteers. If you are interested in having your child seat restraint inspected, please contact 2nd. Asst. Chief Frank Paulo on Monday evenings after 7:00 pm at (845) 297-3897. "New Hackensack is always looking for ways to assist our residents and being able to provide these inspections just adds to our ever-growing list of benefits we provide." stated Mr. Paulo. For a listing of other local inspection stations for your convenience, visit www.safeny.org.
DUTCHESS E-911 SIGN LAW - ARE YOU IN COMPLIANCE? -- Posted by admin on Wednesday, September 8 2004
Dutchess County Local Law 8 of 1999 and Local Law 8 of 2000 requires that County residents have uniform signs for E-911 purposes so that all structures can be easily identified by emergency vehicles. To ensure that response to emergencies isn't delayed due to lack of 911 addressing by homeowners, New Hackensack has now made available to the public these uniform signs for only $15. In addition, residents of the New Hackensack Fire District also have the option of having the fire department install these invaluable signs. When seconds count, don't delay response to your home, get your sign today! Click here for downloadable order form!.
