Aircraft Emergency
February 17, 2007
On Saturday February 17th, New Hackensack Fire Department, DC Airport Rescue, and Town of Wappinger Ambulance were dispatched for an aircraft emergency. The pilot of this aircraft requested assistance after attempting to land at Sky Acres Airport and the landing gear hit an embankment, knocking off the right-side landing gear. The pilot proceeded to DC Airport where they knew emergency services were available via request from the tower. Three individuals on the aircraft walked away without injury. A fuel spill ensued after landing and the aircraft was doused with foam to reduce the potential for ignition. Firefighters worked to contain the spill and also received assistance from the DC Hazardous Materials team while being protected by Airport 92-11.
