Fire at New Hackensack Plaza

April 22, 2006

At 8:01 am, New Hackensack was dispatched to smoke in the building at New Dimensions Hair Salon.  Upon arrival, Incident Command requested a dispatch for a 2nd alarm of fire after finding heavy smoke exiting the Slice of Da Bronx Pizzeria.  Within 9 minutes, an interior attack was begun after the door was forced and fire was found inside the pizzeria.  Crews had the fire under control by 8:30 with no extension of fire to any of the adjacent businesses, just some minor smoke damage.  New Hackensack received mutual aid assistance for tankers from East Fishkill and Hughsonville Fire Departments due to a lack of a hydrant system in the area.  East Fishkill's ladder truck was also put on standby at their headquarters.  New Hackensack was back in service by 10:21.  The probable cause of the fire was arcing caused by a vapor cloud from a new coat of wood lacquer near a power strip.
