Apartment Fire - Wildwood Manor Apartments
July 3, 2005
For the second time in less than two months, New Hackensack responded to Wildwood Manor Apartment for an apartment fire. Upon dispatch, firefighters were notified that there were people trapped in the apartment, however first-arriving members found that the victim escaped just prior to arrival. The cause of the fire was deemed unintentional and was caused by a pot being left on the stove. The resident escaped with minor burns to her arm while attempting to extinguish the fire. A quick response by New Hackensack contained the fire to the kitchen. The remainder of the apartment received some smoke damage. New Hackensack requested East Fishkill Fire Department mutual aid to standby in New Hackensack's quarters and was assisted by the D.C. Fire Investigation Team to establish a cause. The American Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the family with shelter for the evening. The previous fire, which occurred at the same complex (#6), occurred in May and also began in the kitchen. The cause of that fire remains unknown but was deemed unintentional.
