Drunk Driver Damages Corvettes
July 13, 2005
On the morning of July 13, 2005, just after 3:00 am, New Hackensack Fire Department and Town of Wappinger Ambulance were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with a person ejected from the vehicle at 17 Sherwood Heights. Upon arrival, members were notified that the victim ran from the scene. After searching the wooded area in close proximity to the final resting place of his vehicle, New Hackensack put their Bullard TIX thermal imaging camera into action. Searching the yard next door, firefighters located the driver approximately 100 yards away past an open field at the edge of a wooded area, kneeling by a tree. The Dutchess County Sheriff took him into custody for driving while intoxicated. He was treated on the scene for head lacerations by Town of Wappinger Ambulance. The driver, apparently also driving at a high rate of speed, veered off the road into a yard where he was then launched off the driveway into the next yard where his descent was cushioned by two Corvettes. After falling off both Corvettes, his vehicle then hit a Cadillac, totaling all three vehicles. His car proceeded to slide through the yard until he hit a tree head-on. The incident is under investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff. (Photos by Bill Johnson)
