Car Fire
September 4, 2004
On September 4th at approximately 10:00 a.m., New Hackensack was dispatched to this car fire on Orchard Drive. Upon arrival, members found the vehicle fully involved. During extinguishment, the dual gas tanks on the 1989 Ford ignited and the team had to deal with a 20-gallon fuel spill. The spill was contained before entering the drainage systems and an additional handline with foam was put into action. The Department of Environmental Conservation was notified. Due to the power lines being charred above the vehicle, Central Hudson was requested to the scene. Residents were also without cable and telephone until the services were repaired. The cause of the fire was due to the storage of jumper cables under the hood that came into contact with the hot engine. Members were back in service by 11:18. No injuries were reported.
