Mask Confidence
January 8, 2001 - Members of NKFD participated
in a mask confidence course to test their abilities when confronted with
confined spaces. One of the class objectives is to help firefiighters
overcome their fears when presented with a situation where they are unable
to see where they are and must find their way out. By learning how
to distinguish which direction is out or toward the fire by feeling the
couplings of the hose, firefigheters entered the course of several different
obstacles. These obstacles ranged from tunnels and tubes to simulations
of attic spaces. The final tunnel proved to be more difficult as
the firefighters had to enter a one way tunnel and find the exit hatch
to escape.
