The pilot and passenger onboard this 1967 Piper were unhurt after the aircraft landed short of the runway at Dutchess County Airport shortly after 12:00 pm.  30 members of New Hackensack responded along with the Dutchess County Airport Rescue vehicle.  Cause of the mishap was apparently due to a "cough" in the engine that occurred upon approach.  The momentary loss of power caused the plane to land just short of the runway and the hardened snow caused the front landing gear to break off.  The plane then proceeded approximately another 500 feet down the runway.  A minor fuel leak was contained and the aircraft was removed from the runway.
