Small World Daycare - Joint Effort with East Fishkill Fire

September 25, 2006

New Hackensack and East Fishkill Fire Departments worked together to provide fire prevention awareness to the children of Small World Child Care on Route 376 in East Fishkill.  The children were taught valuable lessons and spent some time with New Hackensack's robot, Sparky the Fire Dog.  Afterward, the children were treated to a visit at East Fishkill's Fire Engine to check out the equipment used by firefighters.  In addition, the children then entered New Hackensack's Fire Safety Trailer to learn about hazards in the home and then practiced their skills of staying low in smoke after the trailer was filled with fake smoke.  Children learned to feel a door for heat and then exited the trailer via the bedroom window to the arms of firefighters awaiting their exit.  They then made their way to the all important meeting place, a mailbox setup at the corner of the daycare facility.
