Firefighters Thank YMCA Students

November 8, 2006

On November 8th, firefighters from New Hackensack Fire Company spent some time with students involved in the after school YMCA program at Myers Corners Elementary School. During Fire Prevention Awareness Week, New Hackensack's Fire Prevention team asked the students to help spread the word about fire prevention, specifically this year's theme "Cooking Fires - Watch What You Heat". In an effort to spread the word, the students created banners that were displayed in the lobby of the school during Fire Prevention Awareness Week. The banners were then presented to the firefighters during their visit to the school on Friday, October 13th. The banners were then displayed during the Fire Company's Annual Open House. In recognition for their efforts, the fire prevention team visited the students and presented each student with a certificate of appreciation for a job well done. In addition, the students were presented with "do-it-yourself" crafts that were donated by Lowes Home Improvement. After the presentations, the firefighters brought along donuts and apple cider to enjoy with the students while enjoying the visit. Sparky, the Fire Company's mascot, was also in attendance to thank the students.

New Hackensack would like to thank the Principals, Robert Memmoli and Gail Wehmann, as well as the YMCA staff for assisting with this successful project. The Fire Company would also like to thank the following students for their participation: Casey Adamec, Pasquale Antonecchia, Tyler Barrett, Jeffrey Bonanno, Alyssa Carpentieri, Skylar Carpentieri, Alexandria Conklin, Jason Cunningham, Crystal Daniels, Ryan Daniels, Collen Edwards, Angelica Hunt, Rebecca Kent, Jessica Lechocinski, Sydney Lechocinski, Brent Lingardo, Craig Lingardo, Zachary Mauro, Phillip Miller, Joshua Schweiger, Timothy Schweiger, Hanna Slywkanycz, Taylorann Torre, and Brandon Virtue.
