New Hackensack Fire Company Annual Open House
October 12, 2003

On Sunday, October 12th, New Hackensack held their Annual Open House.  Along with demonstrations, the attendees were able to view the equipment used and try on gear.  Kids were taught valuable lessons about crawling in smoke with help from the Dutchess County Office of Emergency Response’s Safety trailer.  In addition, kids learned to Stop, Drop and Roll if their clothes catch fire.  Children were also given the opportunity to spray water targets with a real fire hose while wearing real gear and had their pictures taken.   Lowe’s Home Improvement Center was on hand with a small craft workshop for kids to build wooden helicopters or bat houses.  The children were also able to meet with Sparky and Pumper the robot as well as “Old Engine One” the talking fire truck; which was New Hackensack’s first original engine, a 1949 Sanford, which was restored and is now part of their historical museum.  With the weather holding out, there was a terrific turnout of residents from around the district.
