Rules and Regulations

 

SECTION I

 

10.000       CHIEF OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

10.005       The Chief of Department will be appointed annually. Nominee for the position shall be an Active Member, a resident of the New Hackensack Fire District, served as a Fire Company Line Officer as a 2nd and 1st Lieutenant, Captain, 2nd and 1st Assistant Chief or have previously served in this position in the New Hackensack Fire District and have been nominated by members of the Fire Company/Department at their annual meeting. The person acting as Secretary of such meeting shall promptly notify the Fire District Secretary in writing of such nominations.

 

The Board of Fire Commissioners at its organizational meeting in the month of January next succeeding the making of such nominations shall consider the same and appoint such persons to the office to which the firefighter have been nominated or if the nomination is not approved, the Board of Fire Commissioners shall call another meeting at which a new nomination shall be made to take the place of the nomination not approved. Any such person shall assume the duties of this office as soon as the firefighter has been appointed and shall serve until firefighter successor is appointed.

 

10.010       The Chief shall see that the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire Commissioners are observed and that the orders of the Board of Fire Commissioners are duly executed.

 

10.020       The Chief shall have complete and exclusive control of the members of the Fire Department of the Fire District at all fires, inspections, reviews, funerals, and all other occasions when the fire department is on duty or parade.

 

10.030       The Chief shall also have supervision of the fire apparatus, district vehicles, and of all equipment and other property used for the prevention or extinguishment of fire.

 

10.040       The Chief shall be required to report on the condition of the property of the fire district and other information as it may be required of him by the members of the New Hackensack Board of Fire Commissioners.

 

10.050       The Chief shall hold the firematic officers, company members, and career firefighter(s) of the fire district strictly to account for neglect of duty and may suspend them for improper conduct, subject to the Board of Commissioners discretion at their next monthly meeting.
