35.000 EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR OFFICERS
35.100 The following courses or district approved equivalents are required training tracts to be appointed to the stated officer positions:
Before Second Lieutenant
At least 2 years as a firefighter
ICS 100, 200, and 700
Firefighter I and Firefighter II or
Basic and Intermediate Firefighter, and Advanced Firefighter
Firefighter Safety & Survival
Truck Company Operations.
Hazardous Material First Responder Operations
CPR
Before First Lieutenant
At least 1 year as a Second LT
Emergency Vehicle Operators Course
Apparatus Operator – Pump or equivalent
Principles of Instruction (15 hr Montour) or equivalent
Introduction to Fire Officer
Before Captain
At least 1 year as a First LT
Principles of Fire Investigation/Fire Behavior and Arson Awareness
Fire Officer I
Incident Safety Officer
Live Fire Training (1A)
Conducting Live Fire Evolutions (1B)
Before Second Assistant Chief
At least 1 year as a Captain
Fire Officer II or equivalent
Legal Issues in the Volunteer Fire Service
Before First Assistant Chief
At least 1 year OJT as Second Assistant Chief or equivalent
New Hackensack Fire Service Instructor
Before Chief
At least 1 year OJT as First Assistant Chief or equivalent
It is recommended that Company Officers follow the progression listed to complete the courses. The final decision for Chief Officers will be at the discretion of the Board of Fire Commissioners, for company officers it will be the Chief. Requirements may be waived by the Board of Fire Commissioners upon the recommendation of the Chief.
