70.000 TRAINING
70.010 Regular training sessions shall be conducted on Monday mornings and evenings, according to the schedule developed by the District Training Chief and the District Fire Training Captain. These sessions shall begin at prescribed times and locations. Special courses and/or drills may be called by the Chief of the Department at a specific date, time, and place.
70.020 Scheduled / non‑scheduled training sessions. A scheduled training session is a session, which has been announced or posted in advance, at either a company meeting or in the monthly newsletter. A non‑scheduled session is a drill or class for which late notification was received by the department and all Members who attend the scheduled sessions shall receive credit for their attendance in their annual totals. Members attending a non‑scheduled session shall sign in on an attendance roster but will not receive credit on their annual totals.
70.030 Any approved member who successfully completes the New York State Emergency Medical Technician or First Responder Course with a passing grade shall be reimbursed the cost of the tuition and books by the District.
70.040 Any member wishing to retain "Active Status" must attend the minimum requirements of scheduled drills. Included in these requirements shall also be the required OSHA safety training sessions and the live burn sessions. This includes type of training and hourly requirements.
70.041 All active members will be required to attend two (2) OSHA Safety training sessions annually. These will be offered once a month on alternating months: Session 1 will be offered in January, March, May, September and November; Session 2 will be offered in February, April, June, October and December. All active members must attend both Session 1 and Session 2 to fulfill their annual requirement. There are no sessions during July and August.
70.042 All interior firefighters must attend New Hackensack Fire Department live burn drills offered at the County training center or other approved facility according to the category under which they fall.
70.050 Members who are unable or unwilling to fulfill the minimum requirements will be subject to removal from "Active Status".
70.060 Training that is scheduled on Monday mornings is for those members whose normal working hours come in conflict with the evening training sessions. These sessions shall be coordinated by the District Fire Training Captain and/or the Career Firefighter.
70.070 All members are encouraged to attend fire fighting training programs, which are available to them.
