The NKFD Fire Prevention Bureau spreads the fire safety message in many different ways. It is committed to spreading the word about not just fire safety, but safety in general to the community. If you are interest in having the Fire Prevention Bureau: Do a talk for your group, Give your group a tour of the Fire House, attend a birthday party, or just have questions, contact the Bureau at (845) 297-3897.
Do you practice Exit Drills In The Home (E.D.I.T.H.)? Practicing exit drills in the home may save you or a loved one's life. We encourage our residents to work with their children to develop an escape plan in case your home catches fire. To download an escape plan grid for you and your family, click here.
Disasters can happen anywhere and at any time. Having an emergency supplies kit prepared in the event of a disaster will help children feel more secure knowing that it is there and provide you with those important necessities in the case of an emergency. Fire Awareness / Open House (October 13th)
Through the annual Fire Awareness/Open House Day at the Fire Station, many subjects of safety are covered and also demonstrated. Adults as well as children can all participate in the different mini seminars and games and there are various exhibits from the history of the fire company to our fire apparatus.
Fire Safety Trailer (Available upon request for any event )
The Fire Safety Trailer is our tool for providing safety education via the use of a model home. Complete with a kitchen, living room, and bedroom, the trailer assists the prevention team with discussing safety in the kitchen, practicing Exit Drills In The Home (EDITH), crawling in smoke, and checking doors for heat. The trailer is designed with heated doors, and special "plumbing" to fill the unit with fake smoke. It has many other attributes all designed to discuss safety. Sparky and Pumper Robot (Available upon request for any event )
With Old Engine One "The Talking Fire Engine" being such a hit with kids, The Bureau now has a robotic friend to help spread the word about fire prevention. Along with Sparky the Fire Dog, Sparky and Pumper will accompany firefighters to most events, including school visits, club meetings, and birthday parties. Click Here for a glimpse!.

Our mascot. This 6' dog is a favorite of the kids. He accompanies firefighters to most of the child age events. You can email Sparky below by clicking on the mailbox.
Wappinger Family Fun Day
An annual event hosted by New Hackensack in the spring. The Fire Prevention Bureau works with Brown Chiropractic Associates and The Enchanted Forest Daycare and Learning Center to put on this event that is all about fun and education about children's health and safety. Babysitting Course (April 27th & 28th )
Each year, New Hackensack hosts a babysitting course to teach babysitters the skills necessary to handle caring for a child. From playing and feeding tips, to learning some basic first aid. And started in 2005, the course certifird attendees in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The 8-hour class is free and runs 2 straight days. For an application and to learn more, click here!
Child Passenger Safety Inspection Station (By appointment )
New Hackensack has joined several Dutchess County Agencies by becoming a Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection station. Certified technicians will educate and instruct parents on the proper fitting and installation of a child safety seat. For more information, click here!

More ways that NKFD Fire Prevention spreads the word of Fire Safety is through Boy Scout and Girl Scout visits, Fire House Tours, Parties, Summer Camp Visits, and other local events.
In December, New Hackensack gives Santa Claus an annual tour of the Fire District and helps him visit residents while handing out candy canes. Be on the lookout for a visit in your area!
In addition, New Hackensack hosts a Santa Meet and Greet. For one day only, Santa comes and visits the firehouse and meets with the kids. Bring your kids out for a picture with Santa and to make some crafts while enjoying the sounds of holiday music and having a cup of cheer!
